A door opened slowly, a bell ringing to signal a customer had entered.

"Nice store…" the customer commented to himself, the middle aged man straightening his suit slightly, entering the used bookstore carefully, eyes looking up and down the shelves which housed the stories.

"Hello!" a voice called out from the shelves, "I'll be with you in a moment, if you need some help."

"Oh, I'm not here to buy anything. Just to visit."

There was a notable silence that suddenly permeated the air, broken by a loud thud of books, and then feet running through the hallways, pausing.

"You look good for fifteen years past," the middle aged man in the suit smiled, looking at a slightly younger man with brown hair and brown eyes.

"In fact, you look like you could still be in your late twenties…" Ethan Vire, the man in the suit smiled, "It's been a while, Sammy."

"Ethan…" 'Sammy' said, narrowing his eyes, "So you survived…What do you want?"

"Oh? No offer of tea? A place to sit?" Ethan grinned, feigning hurt. "No hospitality for a visitor."

"Tell me why I shouldn't just call the police right now," Samuel glared, folding his arms over his chest.

"Several. Practical wise, I could cause a lot of damage and escape before the police arrive. Kill a lot of people…" Ethan chuckled, "But that wouldn't be right. No Sammy, I've been thinking. For these past fifteen years, of what my power means. What I did…"

He paused, glancing outside, where a window showed some passersby. No one seemed to pay attention to the two men conversing in the store.

"I need to atone for what I've done…And I know where to begin," Ethan answered, "Where to start…Killing Gallic."

Samuel paused, raising an eyebrow, "Kill to atone for killing? That seems a little counterproductive…"

"But you know what he is," Ethan responded, "What he truly is. We are some of the very few people who do who aren't part of his inner workings."

Samuel frowned, thinking. He couldn't trust Ethan. Not now. But he was different. He seemed…almost sad here. And the mere fact he hadn't tried to kill him as soon as he walked in meant Ethan had changed.

"And what do you want from me?" Samuel asked.

"Nothing. I merely came to tell you I intend to change," Ethan answered, "I have a plan…I will prove that I can use this strength for more then just destruction."

"Fine…" Samuel sighed, "But if you try something like you did fifteen years ago…"

"I won't Sammy. Don't worry," Ethan smirked, then picked up a book from the pile, glancing at its' title. A sticker marking the address of Samuel's store as where the barcode was, "Mind if I borrow this?"

"…Keep it…" Samuel answered, and Ethan smiled, turning and walking out the door, the bell chiming again.

Moving to the desk where he handled sales, Samuel sunk down into the chair, rubbing his temple slowly.

Why did his life throw him things like this?

Fifteen years ago, he and Ethan had fought, and a building came crashing down over them. Samuel lived, thanks to his ability, and had just been a name in the survivors of the building coming down.

After that he left the city too, running from Gallic, from Ethan, afraid they'd tried to use someone against him.

Then, a couple years ago, he returned. He was unable to find her now. Like him, she seemed to have left. Thanks to an old friend, Peterson, he managed to start this small business in order to find a way to keep a life, and tried to simply become a member of society, and forget the fact that he never needed medical insurance.

And now, in the space of a few minutes, everything was coming back, crashing around his ears.

[. . .]

Power...that is what he had.

A wall simply collapsed, Ethan smirking as figures surrounded him in the dust. In this mostly underground building, in the desert outside of L.A., he had found it. One of many of Gallic's secret facilities...Where strange experiments were performed.

"I take it the boss isn't here then," Ethan chuckled, "And guns? So passé."

Ethan moved, the first figure suddenly crying out in pain, his arm being broken, the gun falling to the floor.

However, it never hit, Ethan's foot kicking it forward, the metal object spinning and smashing into another figure.

The soldier with the broken arm suddenly found himself being picked up, and then thrown as well across the room. Three down.

The others turned and fired, but Ethan had already moved, and a fourth found themselves crumbled on the ground. Two left.

"He's fast!" one shouted, and Ethan blurred in front of him, smashing his palm into the soldier's helmet, smashing into it, the man being thrown backwards from the force, smashing into the wall, then falling to the ground.

"Do you really think you stand a chance?" Ethan said, looking to the last one, who was slowly lifting the gun.

The soldier scowled, taking aim. Ethan moved again, surprising the soldier as Ethan bent the barrel of the gun up and around, then smashed his other fist into the soldier's chest, sending him into the wall like his compatriot.

Moving through the bare room, he studied a metal door blocking his path into the hallway. With a grunt, he pressed his fingers into the metal, the hard material yielding to his touch, creating hand holds.

His feet shifted, finding better traction as he pulled, the door protesting, but slowing coming out. With a loud clang, Ethan fell backwards, turning it into a roll, throwing the door off and behind him, getting up quickly and running into the hallways, alarms now fully blaring.

It was quiet. More so then he thought it would. He turned down the hallway, then paused, seeing what appeared to be a nurse in the corner. The entire room was...Odd. There was a TV in the corner, a sofa, a fridge. Many things one might see in a normal house.

"Get out of here! You do not belong here!" the woman shouted. Ethan looked back to her, frowning.

"What is Gallic doing here?" Ethan sneered. He noticed more doors leading out of this room.

"Mr. Gallic does not allow visitors...leave!" the woman continued to shout, then charged at Ethan.

Fifteen years ago, Ethan would have just snapped the woman's neck with a backhand as she charged. But now...he was different.

He easily dodged her charge, grabbing her shirt collar and tugging her back, grabbing her around the neck until she passed out, then merely left her on the floor. She'd have a massive headache when she awoke, but she'd live.

At least, she wouldn't die by Ethan's hands.

Looking at the doors, Ethan studied them carefully, then went to the one to the far left. He felt something behind that door.

It opened easily, and there was a single light hanging there, and a small bed. On it was a young boy, maybe fourteen, fifteen years old, with red-orange hair, sitting on the bed, staring at Ethan with brown eyes.

"Who...who are you? Are you here to hurt me?" the boy said, clutching his knees. Electricity seemed to spark from him, his hair rising up slightly.

"...No..." Ethan said, "Is there anyone else here?"

"Just...just me..." the boy answered, "What are...doing here?"

"Many things...here," Ethan said, then reached behind him. The boy tensed, but paused, as Ethan pulled out the book he had taken from Samuel's shop. Along with a map of the city.

"Can you read? And follow a map?" Ethan asked, glancing backwards. The alarm seemed to have stopped, but that just made him more worried.

Pausing, the boy nodded, taking the map and the book from Ethan carefully. The hairs on Ethan's arm stood up underneath the suit, feeling the static from the boy.

"Go to the address on the book...There someone named Samuel will look after you," Ethan smirked. True, he had never told Samuel something like this would come up, but he figured Samuel wouldn't be able to say no to someone in need, "Tell him that Ethan sent you..."

"Go?" the boy paused, "But...I'm suppose to stay here...Bad things happen if I leave. Not ready yet..."

Ethan scowled, "You're free. You can do as you choose...Just follow the path out of there. It's well marked by destruction. Move as fast as you can...I'll make sure no one follows."

Ethan stepped out of the small room, and the boy gingerly got off the bed, dressed in a simple red shirt and blue pants, walking outside into the living area. He glanced to the unconscious nurse, but didn't seem bothered by it.

"Go...now," Ethan said, and the boy paused, and started off suddenly, making his way down the hallway, following the path of destruction Ethan had used to get in.

As the boy ran, Ethan turned around in the room and smiled...Time to cause a distraction...

[. . .]

The shop was closed, and Samuel was prepared to retire for the night. Making his way to the stairs to his apartment above the store, he heard hurried knocking.

"We're closed!" Samuel yelled, grumbling to himself. The knocking just intensified.

Samuel sighed, turning back to the store. Peering through the glass, a scared looking boy pounded on it, illuminated by the street light. His face turning to worry, Samuel darted forward, quickly unlocking the door, the young boy stumbling in.

"Are you okay? Is something wrong? Do you need help?" Samuel asked quickly, as the boy stumbled forward, Samuel catching him. From his hands a book and a map slid. Samuel paused. That book...it was the same one Ethan had taken...

"Are...you Samuel?" the boy asked, looking upwards, looking worried.

"...Yes, I am..." Samuel answered, wondering what was happening.

"Ethan...sent me...Said I would be...safe here..." the boy continued, then closed his eyes. The stress overtook him, and he passed out.

Pausing, Samuel frowned. He set the boy down on the floor carefully, then locked the door. Picking him up, he carried him upstairs. Relatively easy. The red headed boy was small for his age. Only five feet tall.

Once upstairs, Samuel set him on the couch. He frowned then to himself. What was Ethan up to? Who was this boy?

Ethan had said he was going to make sure Gallic was taken down...was this boy connected to Gallic in some way?

With a sigh, Samuel went to make some tea. He certainly wasn't going to be sleeping anytime soon...
Huzzah! Finally, part II is now up!

Here, we see Samuel and Ethan, a tiny bit of backstory, and this strange red headed boy who the SRBers (especially CR XD) should already know.

Next part we'll most likely see more of Edda and pals.
